LGWU 1970s Jersey knit minimalist wedding dress
Mid 1970s Union made USA jersey knit wedding gown. Known as “liquid satin” w “satin-like” sheen, ease of movement & care. The bodice has a bib/plaquet of intricate crocheted lace embellished with faux pearls as is the High “Victorian” or “Edwardian” style collar, a luxurious, textured appearance, finished with soft pleats AND a slit! modest but not TOO modest.
Empire waist, long, slim-fit sleeves that follow the line of the arm closely and finish in a wide cuff at the wrist, adorned with the same lace and pearls, providing a delicate and ornate contrast to the simple, clean lines of the arm. The shoulder has a subtle puffed or gathered detail, adding a touch of structure and volume at the top. the skirt just the skirt is lined with a heavy vintage taffeta, closes w metal zipper.
AND THE BRIDAL SNOOD!
Detachable Watteau Cape Veil. these were designed for versatility. You could wear it as a cape flowing from the shoulders for the reception, and for the ceremony, you could draw the front edge up over your head to create a hooded “mantilla” effect. The hooks would remain secured at the shoulders to keep the fabric draped perfectly. creates a soft, hooded “mantilla” effect Juliet Cap Veil Space Age” or “Victorian Revival” aesthetic where clean lines and architectural fabrics were trendy.
There are three marks on the Gown that should wash out: One on the inside seam of the right shoulder one on the bottom of the train & one Midway on the outside of the train. And, the snood hooks on at the shoulders there are no apparent Loops for the hooks on the shoulders so there is perhaps a missing Cape that it would have attached to.
